Streaked Puffbird

Malacoptila striata

The Streaked Puffbird (Malacoptila striata) is a medium-sized bird found in the tropical forests of South America. It has a distinctive appearance, with a brownish head, streaked throat, and a greenish back. This species is known for its unique call, a series of low, guttural notes. Streaked Puffbirds are sit-and-wait predators, perching quietly while scanning for insects, small reptiles, and even small birds. They are cavity nesters, often using abandoned woodpecker holes for nesting. The conservation status of the Streaked Puffbird is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
