Strickland's Shama

Copsychus stricklandii

Strickland's Shama is a small passerine bird native to the island of New Guinea. It is known for its melodious and varied song, which it uses to communicate with its mate and defend its territory. The male is striking, with glossy black plumage and a chestnut belly, while the female is more subdued in appearance. This species is often found in the dense undergrowth of lowland rainforests, where it forages for insects and small invertebrates. Despite its beautiful song and attractive appearance, the Strickland's Shama faces threats from habitat loss and fragmentation due to deforestation. Conservation efforts are needed to protect its remaining habitat and ensure its survival.
