Striolated Bunting

Emberiza striolata (Lichtenstein, MHC, 1823)

Striolated Bunting, Emberiza striolata, breeds across rocky scrublands in the Palearctic and Africa, with patchy presence from north-east Chad and eastern Egypt to north-east Somalia and north-west Kenya, and also in Sinai, Israel, western Jordan, the Arabian Peninsula, southern Iran, north-east Afghanistan, sub-Himalayan Pakistan and far western India. It is a passerine in the bunting family. In the breeding season, the male shows a chestnut body with a grey head marked by darker streaking, plus a white supercilium and moustachial streak. The female has browner tones on the head and softer streaking. Outside the breeding range, it reaches west-central Indian fields.
