Stripe-headed Antpitta

Grallaria andicolus

The Stripe-headed Antpitta is a small, secretive bird found in the Andes of South America. It is known for its distinctive black and white striped head pattern and its shy behavior, often remaining hidden in dense undergrowth. This species forages on the forest floor for insects and invertebrates, using its strong legs and sharp bill to probe the leaf litter. It has a melodious and far-carrying song, often heard in the early morning or late afternoon. The Stripe-headed Antpitta is highly adapted to its montane forest habitat, and its conservation status is of concern due to ongoing habitat loss and fragmentation.
