Stripe-headed Sparrow

Peucaea humeralis

The Stripe-headed Sparrow (Peucaea humeralis) is a small, inconspicuous bird found in dry scrublands and open woodlands of Central America. It is characterized by its distinctive black and white striped head pattern, with a brownish-gray body and a short, conical bill. These sparrows forage on the ground for seeds, insects, and small fruits, and are often seen in pairs or small groups. They build cup-shaped nests in low shrubs or trees, where they raise their young. The Stripe-headed Sparrow's population is currently stable, but it faces threats from habitat loss and fragmentation.
