Striped Owl, Asio clamator, is a widespread owl of Middle America and South America. It was first described by Vieillot in 1808. The bird has prominent ear tufts and a facial disk that is pale with a dark edge. Its upperparts are marked with stripes and fine patterning, while the underparts are lighter with strong streaking. The wings are shorter and rounder than those of many close relatives. It occurs across a broad range in Central and South America, from Mexico and Belize south through much of the continent.
