Subdesert Mesite, Monias benschi, is a bird of coastal south-west Madagascar, where it lives in the Mesitornithidae family within the order Mesitornithiformes. It is confined to a narrow strip of lowland habitat in the south-west of the island. Its most notable feature is a long bill that curves downwards, setting it apart from the other mesites. It is a ground-dwelling species associated with spiny thicket and open areas. The bird was described by Oustalet and Grandidier in 1903.
