Sudan Golden Sparrow

Passer suahelicus

The Sudan Golden Sparrow (Passer suahelicus) is a small, strikingly colored bird found in the arid savannas and grasslands of eastern Africa. This species is known for its bright yellow plumage on the head and underparts, with a contrasting black bib and white markings on the wings. The males display more vibrant colors than the females, and both sexes have a distinctive black mask around their eyes. Sudan Golden Sparrows are social birds often seen in small flocks foraging for seeds and insects on the ground. They construct dome-shaped nests in thorny shrubs or trees. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation are potential future concerns for this species.
