Ninox leventisi
The Sulawesi Hawk-owl (Ninox leventisi) is a small to medium-sized owl species found in the forests of Sulawesi, Indonesia. It is characterized by its distinctive facial disk and yellow eyes. This nocturnal bird preys on small mammals, birds, and insects, using its sharp talons and keen eyesight to capture its prey. The Sulawesi Hawk-owl nests in tree cavities and is known for its haunting hoots during the night. Due to habitat loss and deforestation, the conservation status of this species is currently listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
