Sulawesi kingfisher

Actenoides concretus

The Sulawesi kingfisher (Actenoides concretus) is a medium-sized kingfisher found in the tropical forests of Sulawesi, Indonesia. It has a distinctive blue and white plumage with a striking red bill. This species is known for its loud, piercing calls that echo through the dense canopy. Sulawesi kingfishers primarily feed on insects, small reptiles, and amphibians, often hunting from a high perch before diving to catch their prey. They are monogamous and nest in tree cavities, laying a small clutch of eggs. Despite being locally common, habitat loss and fragmentation pose significant threats to their populations.
