Sulawesi swiftlet

Hirundapus celebensis

The Sulawesi swiftlet (Hirundapus celebensis) is a small, fast-flying bird found in the forests and limestone caves of Sulawesi, Indonesia. It has a distinctive, slender body and long, narrow wings, which enable it to maneuver with great agility in flight. The swiftlet feeds on flying insects and builds its nest using saliva in the dark recesses of caves. Its vocalizations consist of high-pitched twittering calls. The Sulawesi swiftlet plays a vital role in the ecosystem by controlling insect populations. However, its population is threatened by habitat loss and disturbance of cave nesting sites.
