Scolopax rosenbergii
The Sulawesi woodcock (Scolopax rosenbergii) is a medium-sized wader found in the dense forests and marshy areas of Sulawesi, Indonesia. This elusive bird is known for its cryptic plumage, which provides excellent camouflage among the leaf litter and undergrowth. The Sulawesi woodcock is primarily nocturnal, foraging for invertebrates such as earthworms and insects under the cover of darkness. During the breeding season, males perform aerial displays to attract females. Despite being relatively widespread in its range, the Sulawesi woodcock faces threats from habitat loss and degradation due to deforestation and human encroachment.
