Sulawesi Woodcock

The Sulawesi Woodcock (Scolopax celebensis) is a medium-sized wader found in the forests and grasslands of Sulawesi, Indonesia. It has a cryptic plumage that provides excellent camouflage in its habitat. This woodcock is primarily nocturnal, foraging for invertebrates such as earthworms and insects in the leaf litter and soil. It has a long bill that is used to probe the ground for food. The Sulawesi Woodcock is known for its distinctive nasal calls during the breeding season. Although not much is known about its population trends, the species is believed to be facing threats from habitat loss and degradation.
