The Sulphur-bellied Kingfisher (Todiramphus pyrrhopygius) is a medium-sized species of kingfisher found in the forests and mangroves of northern Australia and New Guinea. This striking bird is known for its vibrant blue and white plumage, with a distinctive yellow-orange belly and chest. It has a strong, straight bill and a short tail. Sulphur-bellied Kingfishers are skilled hunters, feeding primarily on small fish, crustaceans, and insects, which they catch by diving from perches into the water. They are typically found near water bodies such as rivers, streams, and coastal areas. Despite facing habitat loss and potential threats from human activities, the conservation status of the Sulphur-bellied Kingfisher is currently labeled as Least Concern by the IUCN.
