Sunda Scops Owl

The Sunda Scops Owl (Tyto javanica) is a small to medium-sized owl species found in Southeast Asia, particularly in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. It has a distinctive heart-shaped facial disc and prominent ear tufts. This nocturnal bird of prey primarily feeds on insects, small mammals, and birds. The Sunda Scops Owl is known for its haunting, high-pitched calls during the night. It prefers a variety of forested habitats, including primary and secondary forests, as well as wooded areas near human settlements. This owl is often observed perched on tree branches, camouflaged by its mottled brown and grey plumage. The Sunda Scops Owl is not currently classified under a specific conservation status by the IUCN.
