Superb Pitta

Pitta superba

The Superb Pitta is a strikingly beautiful bird found in the forests of New Guinea and nearby islands. It is known for its vibrant plumage, with a combination of deep blue, green, and black on its upperparts, and bright red, orange, and yellow on its underparts. This species is often found foraging on the forest floor, where it hunts for insects and small invertebrates. Superb Pittas are known for their distinctive calls, which are often heard during the breeding season. They prefer dense, tropical forests with thick undergrowth and are typically found at elevations up to 1500 meters. Although not currently classified by the IUCN, their populations may be at risk due to habitat loss and fragmentation.
