Thraupidae — Tanagers & Allies

Superciliaried Hemispingus, Thlypopsis superciliaris, is a bird of the Thraupidae family found in South America from Venezuela to northern Bolivia. It lives in the Andes, where it occurs in moist montane forest and in areas of forest that have been altered. The species was first described by Lafresnaye in 1840. Its range also includes Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The bird is known from several subspecies, and the pattern of variation in its plumage features has led to suggestions that some of them may deserve separate species status.
