Swainson's Flycatcher, Myiarchus swainsoni, is a passerine of widespread South American range, occurring across most mainland countries and reaching Aruba and Trinidad as a vagrant. It belongs to the tyrant flycatcher family and was described by Cabanis and Heine in 1860. It is found east of the Andes through much of the continent, with no records from Chile or French Guiana. Four subspecies are recognised, and the classification remains unsettled. The nominate form differs genetically from the other three, which have been linked more closely with the dusky-capped flycatcher.
