Creagrus furcatus
The Swallow-tailed Gull is a striking seabird found in the Galápagos Islands. It is known for its unique appearance, with a black plumage, distinctive forked tail, and a bright red ring around its eye. This species is well adapted for nocturnal foraging, using its keen eyesight to spot prey in the dark ocean waters. Swallow-tailed Gulls are highly specialized feeders, primarily consuming fish and squid. They nest on rocky cliffs and lava outcrops, often in large colonies. Their population is relatively small and restricted to a few breeding sites, making them vulnerable to disturbances. Conservation efforts are focused on protecting their nesting sites and minimizing human impact on their foraging areas.
