Swee Waxbill, Coccopygia melanotis, is a passerine of the waxbill family that breeds in Africa from south-eastern Zimbabwe and south-western Mozambique to southern South Africa. It is a common bird of uplands, where dry shrubland and open forest are typical, and some forms also occur in lowland areas and large gardens. It is usually seen in small parties rather than in big flocks. The male has a black face, while the female’s face is grey, and young birds are duller still with an all-black bill.
