Swift Parrot

Lathamus discolor

The Swift Parrot (Lathamus discolor) is a small, migratory parrot native to southeastern Australia. These vibrant green parrots are known for their swift flight and acrobatic movements. They have a distinctive red forehead and throat, with green and blue plumage on their wings and body. The species is known for its dependence on the nectar of flowering eucalyptus trees, and it plays a crucial role in pollination. Due to habitat loss and predation, the Swift Parrot is listed as critically endangered, with its population declining rapidly. Conservation efforts are focused on protecting its breeding and foraging habitats, as well as controlling introduced predators.
