Swift Parrot

Lathamus discolor (Shaw, 1790)

Swift Parrot, Lathamus discolor, is a parrot of south-eastern Australia, breeding in eastern Tasmania and spending the non-breeding season on the mainland from south-eastern Queensland to central Victoria. It is a member of the Old World parrots and was described by Shaw in 1790. The species is nomadic and moves according to food availability, rather than staying in one place. Its range is limited to this part of Australia, with summer breeding in Tasmania and winter presence on the mainland.
