Tahiti Petrel

Pseudobulweria aterrima

The Tahiti Petrel (Pseudobulweria aterrima) is a seabird species belonging to the Procellariidae family. It is a medium-sized petrel with a wingspan of approximately 90-100 cm. This species is predominantly dark brown or black with a white patch on the underwing. The Tahiti Petrel is known for its long, gliding flights over the open ocean, where it feeds on fish, squid, and crustaceans. Breeding colonies are located on remote, rugged islands, where they nest in burrows or rock crevices. Due to predation by introduced species and habitat degradation, the Tahiti Petrel faces conservation challenges.
