Prosobonia parvirostris
The Tahiti rail (Prosobonia parvirostris) is a small, flightless bird native to the island of Tahiti in French Polynesia. It is characterized by its brown plumage, short bill, and distinctive white undertail coverts. The species is primarily ground-dwelling, foraging for invertebrates and small seeds in the dense undergrowth of the island's forests. Due to habitat loss and predation by introduced species, the Tahiti rail is considered critically endangered, with only a few individuals remaining in the wild. Conservation efforts are underway to protect and restore its remaining habitat and control the threats it faces.
