Tahiti Sandpiper

Prosobonia ellisi

The Tahiti Sandpiper, scientifically known as Prosobonia ellisi, is a small shorebird endemic to the island of Tahiti in French Polynesia. It has a distinctive long, slightly curved bill and a mottled brown plumage that provides excellent camouflage in its preferred habitat. These birds are typically found in wetlands, marshes, and coastal areas where they forage for small invertebrates in the mud and shallow water. The Tahiti Sandpiper is a critically endangered species due to habitat loss and predation by introduced species. Conservation efforts are underway to protect its remaining habitat and prevent further decline in population.
