Taita Falcon, Falco fasciinucha, breeds in Africa from southern Ethiopia to northern South Africa. It is a falcon of cliffs and highland country, especially in low-rainfall mountainous areas, with scattered local populations in suitable habitat. First described by Reichenow & Neumann in 1895, it was named from the Taita Hills of Kenya. The bird is a robust, long-winged raptor with a short tail, and it is often mistaken for the African hobby. A white throat and rufous markings on the nape help set it apart.
