Fringillidae — Finches, Euphonias

Taiwan Bullfinch, Pyrrhula owstoni, is a finch of the family Fringillidae that breeds in Taiwan. It is confined to the mountains of the island and was described by Rothschild and Hartert in 1907. Once treated as part of the grey-headed bullfinch, it is now recognised by the International Ornithological Congress as a separate species. A 2020 study concluded that it split from mainland Asian P. erythaca in the mid-Pleistocene.
