Picus awokera

The Taiwanese Green Woodpecker (Picus awokera) is a striking bird with a vibrant green plumage, a red crown, and a distinctive black and white pattern on its face. This medium-sized woodpecker is endemic to Taiwan and is known for its loud calls and drumming sounds as it forages for insects in the trees. It prefers mature forests and wooded areas with plenty of old trees for nesting and foraging. The Taiwanese Green Woodpecker plays a vital role in its ecosystem by controlling insect populations and creating nesting cavities for other bird species.
