Eugenes spectabilis (Lawrence, 1867)
Talamanca Hummingbird, Eugenes spectabilis, breeds from Costa Rica into western Panama and is a hummingbird of the family Trochilidae. It lives in mountain oak forest, especially along edges and in openings, and also uses nearby secondary growth. In Costa Rica it is recorded from the Cordillera Central and the Cordillera de Talamanca, while in Panama it is known only from the Volcán Barú massif in Chiriquí Province. It is a monotypic species. The bird was first described by Lawrence in 1867 and was once treated as part of the magnificent hummingbird.
