Tasman Sea Island Thrush

Turdus poliocephalus Latham, 1801

Turdidae — Thrushes

Tasman Sea Island Thrush, Turdus poliocephalus, is a thrush of Australasia, recorded from Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island east of Australia. It was first described by Latham in 1801. The species belonged to the island thrush group, which was later divided into separate species. Its two recognised subspecies, one from Lord Howe Island and one from Norfolk Island, are both extinct. The Norfolk Island form was still fairly common in 1941, but it had disappeared by 1975. Its loss was linked to introduced black rats, habitat change and hybridisation with the common blackbird.
