Tasmanian Boobook

Tasmanian Boobook, Ninox leucopsis, is an owl of Tasmania in the family Strigidae. It is also found on King Island and other Bass Strait islands, and it mainly occurs in eucalypt forests. The species was described by Gould in 1838. It was once treated as the same species as the morepork, but later genetic and physical studies showed it to be separate, and it was recognised as distinct by the International Ornithological Congress in 2022. Males are usually smaller than females.
