Tasmanian Nativehen, Tribonyx mortierii, lives in Tasmania in Australasia and is a flightless rail of the family Rallidae. It was described in 1840 by Du Bus de Gisignies. Endemic to the island state, it is widespread there except in the west and south-west, and it also has an established population on Maria Island. It is a stocky bird with olive-brown upperparts, a white flank patch, darker underparts with a bluish-grey wash, a short blackish tail, bright red eyes and a bill with a small greenish-yellow frontal shield.
