Tasmanian Thornbill

Acanthiza ewingii

The Tasmanian Thornbill (Acanthiza ewingii) is a small, insectivorous bird native to Tasmania and nearby islands. It is characterized by its olive-brown upperparts, a distinct white eyebrow, and a pale underbelly. This species is known for its cheerful and melodious song, often heard in the dense undergrowth of eucalypt forests and woodlands. Tasmanian Thornbills forage for insects and spiders in the foliage and bark of trees, using their slender bills to extract prey. They are typically found in moist, dense vegetation and are known to form small, active flocks. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation are potential concerns for the Tasmanian Thornbill.
