Taveta Weaver

Ploceus castaneiceps (Sharpe, 1890)

Taveta Weaver, Ploceus castaneiceps, lives in Kenya and Tanzania, where it breeds in savannah and also uses bulrushes, woodland and swampy places. It is a bird of the weaver family, first described by Sharpe in 1890. Its most notable feature is the male’s bright golden yellow plumage, with a duller back, greener wings and tail, brown marks on the chest, a red rear crown and a black bill. Females are olive with paler streaking. It lives in colonies, and the male builds oval nests over water from reeds or grasses.
