Tawny-bellied Babbler, Dumetia hyperythra, is a passerine babbler of the Oriental Region, breeding from north-central India to Sri Lanka. It belongs to the family Timaliidae and was described by Franklin in 1831. It is found in low scrub forest and moves in small groups. Within the Indian subcontinent there are three subspecies. The nominate form in northern and eastern India has plain brown underparts, while the western Indian peninsula race has a white throat. The Sri Lankan race also has a white throat, paler underparts and a larger bill.
