Tawny-bellied Screech Owl

Megascops watsonii

The Tawny-bellied Screech Owl (Megascops watsonii) is a small owl species found in South America. It is known for its distinctive tawny-colored belly and cryptic plumage that provides excellent camouflage in its forest habitat. These owls are primarily nocturnal and are skilled hunters, preying on small mammals, insects, and other birds. They have a haunting, high-pitched call that can be heard echoing through the forest at night. Tawny-bellied Screech Owls are typically found in dense tropical and subtropical forests, where they roost in tree cavities or dense foliage during the day.
