Tawny-crowned Honeyeater, Gliciphila melanops, breeds in southern Australia and Tasmania, where it lives in low shrubland and heath. It is a honeyeater in the passerine order, and its range also includes southwest Western Australia. The bird is marked by a tawny crown set above a white line that separates the dark facial pattern. It has a long curved bill for reaching nectar at the base of flowers, and it may also feed on the ground among plants. The Tasmanian subspecies has a rufous tint to its plumage.
