Tawny Eagle
Aquila rapax
The Tawny Eagle (Aquila rapax) is a large bird of prey found in open woodlands and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa and parts of South Asia. It is known for its keen eyesight and powerful talons, which it uses to hunt small mammals, birds, and reptiles. This eagle is recognized by its tawny brown plumage, with a lighter underside and a distinctive pale patch on the upperwing. Tawny Eagles are often seen soaring high in the sky, searching for prey or carrion. They are solitary birds, except during the breeding season when they form monogamous pairs and build large stick nests in tall trees. Despite being widespread, the Tawny Eagle faces threats from habitat loss and persecution, leading to a decline in some regions.
