Tawny Pipit

Anthus campestris

The Tawny Pipit (Anthus campestris) is a small, migratory bird found in open grasslands and agricultural areas across Europe, Asia, and North Africa. It is characterized by its streaked brown and buff plumage, with a pale belly and a distinct pale eyebrow stripe. Tawny Pipits are ground-dwelling birds, often seen foraging for insects and seeds in short grass or bare ground. They are known for their undulating flight and melodious, insect-like song. During the breeding season, they build cup-shaped nests on the ground and lay a clutch of 3-5 eggs. While the global population of Tawny Pipits is currently stable, localized declines have been observed due to habitat loss and agricultural intensification.
