Tawny-throated Dotterel

Oreopholus ruficollis (Wagler, 1829)

Tawny-throated Dotterel, Oreopholus ruficollis, is a plover of South America, breeding from coastal and inland northern Peru to Tierra del Fuego and moving in the non-breeding season to coastal Uruguay and south-eastern Brazil. It lives in grasslands, heath shrublands, fields and meadows, and the nominate form ranges through the high Andes, while O. r. pallidus is confined to the Peruvian coast. The species is the only living member of its genus. It has two subspecies, and the coastal form is smaller and paler.
