Fringillidae — Finches, Euphonias

Tenerife Blue Chaffinch, Fringilla teydea, is a finch of the Canary Islands, breeding only on Tenerife in the highlands of the island. It belongs to the family Fringillidae and was described by Webb, Berthelot and Moquin-Tandon in 1836. Its main home is mountain Canary Island pine forest, especially areas with thick undergrowth, though it also uses laurel and pine woodland, tree-heath and scrub. It is the island’s natural symbol, shared with the Canary Islands dragon tree. Until 2016 it was treated with the Gran Canaria form as one species.
