Terry's jay

Rhynchopsitta terrisi

Terry's jay (Rhynchopsitta terrisi) is a striking medium-sized bird found in the mountainous regions of Mexico. It is known for its vibrant green plumage, black facial mask, and distinctive blue and white wing patches. These intelligent and social birds are often seen in small family groups, foraging for insects, seeds, and fruits in pine-oak forests and cloud forests. They are known for their raucous calls and acrobatic flight displays. Terry's jays play an important role in seed dispersal and are considered a key species for maintaining the health of their forest habitats. However, their populations are threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation.
