Theresa's spinetail

Polytmus theresiae

Theresa's spinetail (Polytmus theresiae) is a small, insectivorous bird found in the Amazon rainforest of South America. It has a distinctive long, slender tail and a rufous-brown plumage with a buffy throat and belly. This species is known for its acrobatic flight as it hunts for insects in the dense understory of the forest. Theresa's spinetail is often found in mixed-species flocks and is known for its high-pitched, trilling calls. It is a secretive bird, making it challenging to observe in the wild. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the conservation status of Theresa's spinetail is currently listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
