Thick-billed Fox Sparrow

Passerella megarhyncha

The Thick-billed Fox Sparrow is a medium-sized songbird found in the western United States and parts of Mexico. It has a distinctive thick bill and reddish-brown plumage with intricate black and gray markings. These sparrows are known for their melodious songs, often heard in the underbrush of coniferous forests and chaparral habitats. They forage on the ground for seeds, insects, and berries, using their strong bills to crack open seeds and nuts. While not currently considered threatened, their populations may be vulnerable to habitat loss and climate change.
