Amytornis modestus (North, 1902)

Thick-billed Grasswren, Amytornis modestus, is a bird of central, south-central and east-central Australia, with its breeding range in those parts of the continent. It lives in arid country, especially chenopod scrub, sandhill cane-grass and dry sandy watercourses with dense saltbush and other low shrubs. Its plumage is marked by dull brown underparts, a long dark-brown tail and clear white streaking on the head, neck, throat, rump, wings and chin, with males having longer tails and females chestnut flanks. It was once treated as the same species as the western grasswren.
