Thick-billed Kingbird

Tyrannus crassirostris

The Thick-billed Kingbird is a medium-sized flycatcher found in the southwestern United States and Mexico. It has a distinctive thick bill and a yellow belly. This species is known for its loud, persistent calls and aggressive behavior, often chasing away larger birds from its territory. Thick-billed Kingbirds are often found in open woodlands, riparian areas, and scrublands where they perch on exposed branches to hunt for insects. They are known for their acrobatic aerial foraging, catching insects in mid-air. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation are potential threats to their populations.
