Thick-billed Raven

Corvus crassirostris Rüppell, 1836

Thick-billed Raven, Corvus crassirostris, breeds in montane Eritrea and Ethiopia and has non-breeding populations in se Sudan and north-west Somalia. It is a passerine in the crow family and is found in mountains and high plateaus. Among corvids, it shares the claim to be the largest with the common raven. Its bill is laterally compressed and strongly curved, and it is black with a white tip. The head, throat and neck have short feathers, and the throat and upper breast show an oily brown sheen, while the rest of the plumage is glossy black with a white patch on the nape and neck.
