Thick-billed Seed Finch, Sporophila funerea, is a passerine in the tanager family that breeds from south Mexico through Central America to south-west Ecuador. It occurs in shrubby and grassy places across that range. Its most useful field mark is its larger bill with a straight upper ridge. The male is almost entirely black and shows a small white patch on the wing, while the female is wholly rich brown. It was formerly placed in Emberizidae, and it has been treated as the same species as the lesser seed-finch.
