Thick-billed Weaver, Amblyospiza albifrons, is a widespread breeding bird across Africa and is found in reedy wetlands, marshes, uplands, suburban areas and artificial wetlands. It also uses forest edges outside the breeding season. Its most striking feature is its very strong bill, which it uses to prise seeds from nutlets and drupes. The species builds compact, globe-shaped nests from fine reed strips, hung between upright stems, with the opening set high and to one side. Colonies are usually small and may include several males.
