Three-banded Plover

Charadrius tricollaris

The Three-banded Plover is a small shorebird found in southern Africa. It is easily identified by its distinctive three black breast bands and bright orange bill. These plovers inhabit open grasslands, wetlands, and riverbanks, where they forage for insects and small invertebrates. They are known for their distinctive alarm call and aerial displays during courtship. The species is monogamous and nests on the ground, often near water. Although not currently classified as threatened, habitat loss and disturbance from human activities pose potential risks to their populations.
