Tibetan Snowcock

Tetraogallus tibetanus

The Tibetan Snowcock (Tetraogallus tibetanus) is a large, ground-dwelling bird native to the high-altitude mountain ranges of Central Asia, particularly the Tibetan Plateau. This species is known for its striking appearance, with predominantly gray and white plumage, a distinctive red facial patch, and long, sturdy legs adapted for traversing rugged terrain. The Tibetan Snowcock is well-adapted to its harsh alpine environment, utilizing its powerful wings to navigate steep slopes and rocky outcrops. These birds are typically found in alpine meadows and barren, rocky slopes at elevations ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 meters. Their haunting, echoing calls are a characteristic feature of the high-altitude landscapes they inhabit. Due to their remote and inaccessible habitat, the conservation status of the Tibetan Snowcock is currently classified as Data Deficient by the IUCN.
